What is Liquid EPDM Rubber?

It is no secret that we think that EPDM Liquid Rubber is a pretty awesome thing, however, we understand that whilst we may be experts, not everyone is going to understand it like we do. With this in mind, we decided that perhaps it was a good idea to try and make sure that everyone can understand more about Liquid EPDM Rubber, which is why we have put together our guide to what it is.

What is EPDM Rubber?

The name EPDM comes from the materials that are needed to create it. This includes Ethylene, Propylene and Dicyclopentadiene Monomer. These materials are combined to create Liquid EPDM Rubber which is then used in a variety of different building projects.

It has greater flexibility than most roofing materials, and is popular in flat roofing of garages and domestic installations in addition to public spaces and commercial projects. Available to buy online, liquid EPDM rubber is also highly accessible to the DIY market, and is beginning to grow in popularity across the roofing industry.

Why is Liquid EPDM Rubber such a great material to use?

There are a variety of reasons why people decide to use Liquid EPDM Rubber for their DIY Projects, and the main reason for this is because it is so versatile. However, there is so much more to Liquid EPDM Rubber than this.

Liquid Rubber EPDM | Installation

 It is water resistant

Compared to many other materials that you can use for roofing, EPDM is incredibly water resistant. It is not only able to withstand ponding (where water gathers on a roof) but also continuous immersion in water too. This is why it is often the preferred choice for flat roofs.

It is UV Resistant too

The sun beating down on any surface is likely to cause a problem for traditional roofing materials, such as felt. After all, it will dry it out and leave it brittle and vulnerable to cracks and bubbling. However, compared to other choices, Liquid EPDM Rubber is going to last longer out in all weather conditions, all whilst retaining its flexibility and performance better than other options.

Liquid EPDM rubber can handle extremes in temperature

Much like exposure to the sun, Liquid EPDM Rubber can also withstand exposure to extremes in temperature too. Which makes it ideal for use on projects that are outside in the elements. Even those that are likely to see a real high or low in temperature.

It is easy to apply

When you are thinking about a project there are going to be a few things that you are going to want. You will want to make sure that you have the right tools and materials for the job, you will make sure that you only buy what you need and of course, you are going to want to make sure that it is as easy as possible to use.

Liquid EPDM rubber can provide safer walking areas

With the ability to add anti-slip mediums to the liquid rubber, either on the surface while it is still wet, or by mixing a product before application, it can be used to create safer walking areas, such as:

  • Paths in homes for the elderly
  • Concrete steps
  • Children’s play zones
  • Balconies
  • Roof terraces

EPDM Liquid rubber is incredibly simple to use, which is often why it is a popular choice for many people who are looking to complete a roofing or any other garden project themselves. Yet still ensure that it is done to a high standard.

Not only does Liquid EPDM Rubber provide all this, but it does so in a cost-effective way. You won’t need to replace it too soon after initially applying it, which means that you save yourself money and time.
